| Overview |
 Ethiopia's dramatic high mountain terrain was formed in the earth's long history of violent geographical change. The most recent volcanic upheavals took place in eastern Africa, followed by torrential rains which created the thousand gushing waterfalls which in turn eroded away the newly formed mountain massif, creating the great gorges and gulleys which are so typical of the region. The mountain massif is a broad plateau, cut off on the north and west by this enormous single crag over 60 kms. (40 miles) long and 1,000-1,500 metres (3000-5000 ft.) high. As far as the eye can see looking north from the escarpment, the fused volcanic cores stand starkly defying the elements. Overhead stretches the vast dome of a sky of the deepest blue, which spreads downwards as clear as sapphire to the mauve of the horizon.

Itinerary |
Day 1:
Arrival in Addis Ababa and welcomed by our representative; transfer to your hotel. Overnight Jupiter Hotel (4 star).
Day 2:
Fly to Gondar and then drive to Debark (106km), the head quarter of the Simien Mountains, and then to Buyit ras. You can spend the rest of the day spotting Gelada Baboons around the lodge or camp site. Overnight Simien lodge.
Day 3:
Hike to Geech, you will have many stops to admire the spectacular scenery. While crossing the river Jinbar, you will have a chance to spot many troops of Gelada baboon. Over night camping at Geech camp site (3550m) (2 nights).
Day 4:
Through the magnificent landscapes, you reach Imet Gogo at an altitude of 3986 meters above sea level, one of the highest peaks in the Simien Mountains. Back to Geech for overnight.
Day 5:
Through the magnificent landscapes, you reach Imet Gogo at an altitude of 3986 meters above sea level, one of the highest peaks in the Simien Mountains. After having your picnic lunch on the way, continue towards Chenek camp site (3500m) where you spend the night passing through the giant lobelias forest. Here you can spot the endemic Walia Ibex. Overnight camping at Chenek.
Day 6:
Today, hike to Ambiquo passing through the Valleys of Serekawa and Mesheba, and Bwait Summit (4430m). From the distance, in the middle of cliffs and peaks, you can spot the Ras Dashen peak. Overnight camping at Ambiquo camp site (3200m) for two nights.
Day 7:
Start very early to ascend Ras Dashen (4620 m), the highest peak in Ethiopia and the fourth highest mountain in Africa. The acclimatization is good and the ascension is not absolutely technical. It is just a long day of hike, on the roof of Ethiopia with a breathtaking view. Then descend back to Ambiquo for overnight.
Day 8:
Trek back to Chenek in the same route you hike in the previous day crossing the Mesheba River. Overnight camping at Chenek camp site.
Day 9:
Drive from Chenek to Gondar and then fly to Addis Ababa. In the evening, be transferred to the airport for your final departure. |
